I came to counselling training after a long period of my own counselling, which felt incredibly valuable to me and I was fascinated by the process. As soon as we started our first listening exercise I felt that I was in the right place. Although I have studied a variety of therapies, I am particularly drawn to the Person Centred Approach, with its strong trust in humans' capacity for healing, development, and problem-solving, given the right conditions. In practice this means I am especially committed to supporting you in your unique way, as opposed to directing you on a specific course or expecting you to fit into a mould.
My training as an Integrative Counsellor and psychotherapist lasted 4 years and I am committed to personal and professional development. I am an accredited member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and adhere to their code of ethics. I also meet monthly with my clinical supervisor and engage in my own personal therapy to keep my work of a high standard.
I have experience of working with adults from a variety of backgrounds with a variety of experiences, of all ages and neurotypes. My way of working can be helpful for all people no matter what their background or history. Due to my own life experiences, things I have particular empathy with are: depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties; religious or spiritual trauma and/or abuse; faith shift or deconstruction; struggles with creativity, meaning and purpose; short term psychosis and manic episodes.
I have volunteered and worked for organisations offering counselling and support to people who have struggles with addiction, and people who have experienced sexual violence. Prior to becoming a therapist I worked in a various jobs and voluntary roles including care and support, catering, retail, and delivery.
Even when not being a therapist I love to spend time pondering the depth and breadth of life, enjoying the non-human world, reading, writing, music, food, friends and family.
